When we lose a loved one, our world shifts. Mindful Photography, as a creative expression or a spiritual practice, can help us accept this new way of being with self-compassion.

Over five weeks, both during the workshops and between sessions, we will use our cameras to receive the images that surround us. We will take time to reflect on the sense of presence, connection or meaning we discover as we gently explore our inner and outer worlds.

This course is appropriate for those who have experienced a significant loss in recent years.  While this is not intended as a therapy group, we will have a licensed clinician with us to ensure this is a safe and comfortable place to process whatever arises during the course.  Please bring a digital camera or smart phone. This is not a technical class, and no experience is needed.

ABOUT THE GROUP LEADERS

Julie Bowman discovered Mindful Photography through Seton Cove a few years after her husband died. She found a practice that combined her love for the camera with the ongoing healing of her heart. A former member of the AustinGrief Board of Directors, Julie has been leading workshops in this form of photography for several years.

Becca Van Tassel, LCSW is the clinical director at Austin Grief. She is committed to providing an empathic and welcoming space for those grieving. She is passionate about incorporating art into the therapeutic experience in order to help clients move from loss to life.
