CAMP RED BIRD
The Austin Center for Grief & Loss is hosting the only camp of its kind in Austin. Camp Red Bird is a bereavement summer day camp for children ages 6-12 that have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver.
In response to COVID-19 Camp Red Bird has shifted to an online camp with fees being covered by children's grief support grants.
Camp Red Bird creates a safe environment where kids can laugh, cry, play, create, remember the person who died, learn that it is okay to grieve, and to understand that they are not alone. It is a space where they can feel ‘normal’, because everyone there has been through something similar and understands what it’s like to lose someone important to them.
Camp Red Bird engages children in therapeutic activities that incorporate art, crafts, nature-based experiences, yoga, and movement to help process feelings of grief. Children who attend camp learn to develop healthy coping skills in a safe and supportive environment.
July 20th - 24th
9:30 am - 11:30 am
Camp Red Bird will be led by a licensed therapist as well as camp counselors. The curriculum is overseen by a team of grief and loss professionals.
There will be opportunities to share in a safe supportive environment. Activities include nature based activities, yoga and a variety of fun therapeutic
games, arts and crafts.
Online via secure Zoom virtual platform.
Fees are covered by children's grief support grants.
The camp will be limited to 25 children.
